The Sound of North is a consistent ISSMA Semi-state and State finalist in the extremely competitive Class A division. Our program prides itself in the idea that "everyone plays a part" and is all inclusive. While being in such a high level program takes commitment, hard work, and tenacity, students who participate agree that this is one of their favorite activities of their entire high school career.
Offering three concert bands to suit any student's ability level our program challenges students daily and throughout their entire high school career. Our concert band is mostly comprised of freshman. Our symphonic band and wind ensemble are audition based. Our Wind Ensemble is a 20 time ISSMA State Concert Band Finalist and is extremely competitive. Of all our students involved in our concert program over 80 students take private lessons.
We offer three jazz bands to suit each student's ability level. These courses are in addition to their primary study in either a concert band or orchestra. Our three bands are all consistent GOLD rated groups with our top band (25th street jazz) being named top honor band at many festivals over the years.
Our voluntary pep band is a great way to hang out, play awesome music, and support our girls and boys basketball teams. The pep band plays at select games throughout the winter.
Our orchestra is a consistent GOLD rated ensemble in Group I through the Indiana State School Music Association. During the class day students focusing on strings work to develop their skills through small and large group instruction. Performances include both string only and full orchestra pieces.
Our Color Guard participates as part of the Sound of North in the fall and competes separately in the IHSCGA circuit in the winter. These students are extremely dedicated to dance, performance, and pageantry throughout the year! Our school offers a color guard class option during the 1st semester to coincide with marching band obligations.
